Brazil's U-17 Women Seek Second Win Against Ghana at World Cup

Brazil’s U-17 women’s national team is gearing up to face Ghana this Wednesday at 3 p.m. (Brasília time) at the Mohammed VI Women’s Football Complex in Salé, Morocco, in the second round of Group C matches at the U-17 Women’s World Cup. After a stunning 6–2 comeback victory over Canada in their opening match, Brazil is on the hunt for another three points to solidify their chances of qualifying for the round of 16. Ghana, on the other hand, is eager to bounce back after suffering a 3–0 defeat to Norway in their first outing. The match will be broadcast live on Sportv, CazéTV, and FIFA+.

This matchup is particularly significant as Brazil and Ghana will meet for the first time in 16 years at this level. Their only previous encounter took place during the group stage of the 2010 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago, where Ghana emerged victorious with a narrow 1–0 win. Now, on Moroccan soil, Brazil has the opportunity to claim their first-ever victory over Ghana in the tournament’s history, which would not only boost their confidence but also be a crucial step in their quest for advancement.

Brazil enters this tournament with a strong sense of purpose, buoyed by their best-ever performance at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2025, where they finished fourth. Under the guidance of head coach Rilany Silva, the team aims to build on their previous success and go even further this time around. The opening match against Canada showcased Brazil’s resilience and attacking prowess, as they managed to turn the game around after initially falling behind.

What the Scoreboard Won't Tell You

Ghana, known as the Black Maidens, has a storied history in youth women’s football, with their best finish coming in 2012 when they secured third place in Azerbaijan. After missing the last two editions of the tournament, Ghana qualified for this year’s World Cup following a tense penalty shootout victory over Senegal in the African qualifiers. However, their campaign in Morocco started on a disappointing note with a loss to Norway, making their upcoming match against Brazil a must-win to keep their hopes alive for the knockout stage.

With both teams having significant goals at stake, the clash between Brazil and Ghana promises to be a thrilling encounter that could determine the fate of Group C. The stakes are high as Brazil looks to continue their winning momentum, while Ghana fights to stay in contention for a place in the next round. This match not only highlights the growing competitiveness of women's football but also serves as a testament to the development of young talent on the global stage.
