Steelers Scout Top Quarterback Prospects Ahead of 2027 NFL Draft
The Pittsburgh Steelers are ramping up their scouting efforts as they keep a close watch on the top quarterback prospects for the 2027 NFL Draft. Following an in-person evaluation of two leading candidates in Week 6, Steelers scouts returned to the field in Week 7 to assess two more promising quarterbacks.
In Austin, Texas, the Steelers had scouts present to observe the Texas Longhorns, featuring quarterback Arch Manning, who is currently ranked as the No. 2 overall prospect. Manning showcased his skills against the Florida Gators, drawing significant attention from NFL scouts. Meanwhile, in Bloomington, Indiana, the Big Ten matchup between the defending champion Hoosiers and Ohio State provided another opportunity for the Steelers to evaluate talent. The Buckeyes' offense is led by wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, the consensus No. 1 overall prospect, but junior quarterback Julian Sayin is also gaining traction, currently sitting at No. 50 on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board.
In their previous scouting efforts during Week 6, the Steelers focused on USC quarterback Jayden Maiava, who is ranked No. 61 overall. Maiava led the Trojans to a road victory over Penn State, further solidifying his status as a viable draft candidate. The Steelers also scouted UCLA's Nico Iamaleava, who unfortunately suffered a season-ending injury, and Oregon's Dylan Raiola, who is currently stepping in as a backup. Raiola is ranked No. 129, while the starter, Dante Moore, is out with a concussion but was previously seen by Steelers scouts earlier in the season.
Steelers' commitment to quarterback prospects
With these recent evaluations, the Steelers have now scouted five of the top eight quarterback prospects for the upcoming draft. This proactive approach indicates their commitment to finding a franchise quarterback who can lead the team into the future.
Let's Call It What It Is
In addition to the quarterbacks, the Ohio State-Indiana game featured two more top wide receiver prospects, Nick Marsh and Charlie Becker, both of whom could also be on the Steelers' radar as they look to enhance their offensive capabilities.
As the draft approaches, the Steelers' scouting department is clearly focused on identifying the right talent to address their needs at the quarterback position. With several high-profile games on the horizon, the team's decision-makers will continue to evaluate prospects closely, ensuring they make informed choices come draft day.
