Fábio Vieira Embraces Hamburg's Supportive Environment

Fábio Vieira, the talented midfielder for Hamburg, recently shared his thoughts on his permanent move to the club in an exclusive interview with Bundesliga.com. After a successful season where he scored seven goals and provided five assists in 29 Bundesliga matches, Vieira's transition from Arsenal to Hamburg was finalized with a €9 million agreement. He expressed his excitement about playing in the Bundesliga, describing it as a competitive league that offers ample opportunities for growth and development.

"The Bundesliga is really nice, it’s very competitive and there’s a lot of space to keep growing and developing," Vieira stated. His commitment to Hamburg is evident, as he feels a strong connection to the club and its supporters. "When people like you, it’s much easier," he added, highlighting the importance of a supportive environment in his career.

The 26-year-old midfielder has forged a special bond with Hamburg, one that he felt was lacking during his time at Arsenal. "What I experienced here was amazing," Vieira explained, noting that his family also enjoyed their time in the city. He appreciates the unwavering support from the fans, stating, "It doesn’t matter if we win or lose, they’re always there for us. When you have a club and fans that love you, you feel much happier to join a club like this."

Vieira's relationship with coach Merlin Polzin has also been a significant factor in his success at Hamburg. Following Polzin's recent contract extension, Vieira expressed his happiness, stating, "Merlin is a great man, and a great coach as well. I’m very happy that he’s renewed his contract. Everyone knows him, everyone knows the way he works, and the staff as well. Everyone is happy with him here."

Despite the pressure that often accompanies high expectations, Vieira maintains a positive outlook. "I’m being honest, I don’t feel any pressure because I do what I love, which is playing football," he said. His comfort at Hamburg allows him to focus on his passion for the game, making it easier for him to perform at his best.

After a rocky start to the 2026/27 Bundesliga season, where Hamburg suffered three consecutive defeats with a goal difference of 0-12, the team managed to secure their first victory with a 2-1 win over Cologne. As they prepare to face Hoffenheim this weekend, Vieira's contributions will be crucial as the Red Shorts aim to build momentum and improve their standing in the league.
