In the first leg, Atlético will enjoy the home advantage, playing in front of their passionate supporters at Arena MRV. The second leg will see them travel to Uruguay, where they will face a determined Montevideo City Torque side. The home-field advantage for the second match was determined based on the teams’ performances during the group stage: Montevideo City Torque finished top of Group F with 13 points, while Atlético topped Group B with 10 points.
Atlético Mineiro reached the semifinals after a dramatic quarterfinal matchup against Santos. After suffering a 2-0 defeat in the first leg at Vila Belmiro, Atlético turned the tie around with a stunning 4-2 victory at home, leading to a penalty shootout where they triumphed 3-1. Goalkeeper Gabriel Delfim was the hero of the night, saving three penalties to secure Atlético’s place in the final four.
On the other hand, Montevideo City Torque made history by advancing to the semifinals for the first time in their history. They overcame Cienciano in a gripping quarterfinal tie. After losing the first leg 2-0 in Peru, Montevideo City Torque staged a remarkable comeback, winning 3-0 at Estadio Centenario to secure their spot in the semifinals.
No Points for Excuses
This semifinal clash will be Atlético’s third appearance at this stage of the Copa Sudamericana, having previously reached the semifinals in the 2019 and 2025 editions. The winner of this tie will advance to the Sudamericana final, which is scheduled for November 21 in Barranquilla, Colombia.
As the excitement builds for these crucial matches, both teams will be looking to capitalize on their strengths and secure a place in the final, making this a must-watch encounter for football fans.
